In yet another addition to her growing list of accolades, University of Florida junior Sandra Gal (Leichlingen, Germany) has been named a first-team All-American by the National Golf Coaches Association. This is the second-career NGCA All-America honor for Gal, who was named first-team All-Southeastern Conference and SEC Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year in April.
After earning honorable mention NGCA All-America recognition as a sophomore in 2006, Gal turned in a banner junior campaign that saw her win SEC Player of the Week honors four times. She led the team with a career-best 72.7 stroke average and posted 13 rounds at par or better, while hitting her career-best 18-hole score of 69 five times during the campaign. She also won the Lady Gator Invitational for the second-straight year, finishing the season with an individual medal and four top-five finishes. She concluded the year ranked fifth in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index with a rating of 71.30.
Gal is the first Lady Gator since Riko Higashio in 1998 to garner first-team All-America honors from the NGCA, as well as the first UF player to earn recognition in consecutive years since Aimee Cho in 2003 and 2004. She is also the fifth Florida player to earn All-America accolades since head coach Jill Briles-Hinton took the reigns prior to the 1998-99 season.
