Canada Women's Soccer Takes XV Pan Am Games Bronze; Melanie Booth Sidelined for Medal Match

The Canada Women's National Soccer Team claimed the bronze medal Thursday at the XV Pan American Games Rio 2007. Canada defeated Mexico 2-1 in the bronze-medal match at the Maraca?a Stadium in Brazil. The Pan Am gold went to Brazil, as the home country defeated the U.S. Under-20 National Team 5-0 in front of nearly 70,000 fans in Thursday's second match.
Melanie Booth, an All-American for the University of Florida soccer team, is a member of the Canadian National team, but was sidelined for the medal match with a hamstring injury. Booth started Canada's first five Pan Am matches, turning in three complete matches.
Booth and the rest of the Canadian National Team now prepares for the play at the FIFA Women's World Cup. Canada is in Group C and opens play Sept. 12 with Norway at the Hangzhou Dragon Stadium in China. Canada also meets Ghana on Sept. 15 and Australia on Sept. 19 in Group C action.
