Men's Golf's Horschel Bows Out In Match Play
Thursday, August 23, 2007 | Men's Golf
University of Florida junior Billy Horschel (Grant, Fla.) fell in the first round of match play Wednesday at the 107th U.S. Amateur at The Olympic Club.
Horschel played tough early, sitting all square through the first seven holes with Ernst. But the two-time All-American ran out of the adrenaline, dropping four of his last five holes to fall in the match, 4 and 3.
A year ago, Horschel collected match-play wins over Americans Ray Sheedy and David Merkow before being defeated on the last hole of his third-round match by eventual semifinalist Ryan Yip.
Horschel's summer is not over, however, as his was one of eight players selected to the prestigious 10-man Walker Cup team. His squad will travel overseas to compete against the Great Britain & Ireland at Royal County Down in Newcastle, Ireland on Sept. 8-9.
