Four Gator Gymnastics Meets to Appear on GatorVision in 2008

The No. 2 University of Florida gymnastics team's home opener versus Illinois-Chicago is available on GatorVision Online. The meet begins at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 11.

A total of four Gator gymnastics meets are available on GatorVision Online this season. The complete schedule appears below.

In addition to live meets, fans can also view gymnastics head coach Rhonda Faehn's weekly press conferences each Monday and also weekly practice reports, where Gator gymnasts comment about upcoming competition.

Series Records (all-time): UF leads Illinois-Chicago 7-0 (last meeting, UF won the 2006 NCAA South Central Regional at 196.375 and Illinois-Chicago was fifth at 191.125.

►The 2007 campaign was one of the best seasons in Florida's history. The Gators claimed the program's sixth Southeastern Conference title and first since 1989. Florida held the No. 1 ranking for the majority of the 2007 season and its 21-0-1 regular-season record marked the program's first undefeated regular season since 1985. At the NCAA Championships, Florida took third, matching the program's second-highest finish in the 26-year history of the event. Six gymnasts earned a program record 15 All-America honors and returns five All-Americans for the 2008 season - Amanda Castillo (So., four-time All-American), Corey Hartung (Jr., six-time All-American), Tiffany Murry (Sr., All-American), Ashley Reed (Sr., three-time All-American) and Melanie Sinclair (So., two-time All-American).

►Florida opens the 2008 season ranked No. 2 on the GymInfo Preseason poll. This matches the highest preseason ranking ever for UF, as the Gators held the No. 2 spot in the 1999 preseason release. Florida has been ranked in the preseason top 10 each year since the poll's inception in 1992. Three-time defending NCAA champion Georgia holds the top spot with 28 first-place votes. Rounding out the preseason top five are No. 3 Utah, No. 4 UCLA and No. 5 Stanford. Seven of Florida's 10 dual meets this season are versus a top-25 preseason ranked team, including next Friday's meet versus No. 1 Georgia.

►Illinois-Chicago also opens its 2008 season Friday. Last year, the Flames finished sixth in NCAA South Central Regional action and won the Midwest Independent Conference title. Illinois-Chicago turned in a 2007 regular season record of 13-11 and posted a season-high 195.35 on Feb. 3 versus San Jose State. Peter and Mary Jansson are beginning their 18th season leading the Flames.

►Florida is 39-8 in home openers. In Florida's previous 35 years of gymnastics, the Gators have opened the home campaign with a win in 25 seasons. Last season, UF posted a 196.85-193.80 win over Oregon State to open the 2007 campaign.

►Florida Head Coach Rhonda Faehn delivered her first child late Tuesday evening. Noah ?mile Bayon arrived at 11:10 p.m. Jan. 8, checking in at 20 inches, 7 lb. 5 oz. Both are doing well. If Faehn is not at Friday's meet, UF Assistant Coach Adrian Burde will handle the head coaching duties.
