Friday, January 11, 2008 | Men's Swimming & Diving
The University of Florida No. 5 ranked men's and No. 7 ranked women's swimming and diving teams will welcome Southeastern Conference foe Louisiana State University to the Stephen C. O'Connell Center for a 2:00 p.m. dual meet on Saturday. LSU's women are currently ranked 24th nationally.
Florida currently owns an undefeated 17-0 record on the men's side and 10-0 record on the women's side against LSU. This season marks the third straight year that the teams have traded home meets and will be the fifth time that head coach Gregg Troy will face LSU.
The Gators are coming off a successful weekend that saw the men sweep through two meets and the women through one. On Friday evening, the Gator men entertained Purdue, taking the meet by a score of 137-125. The Gators were led by Bradley Ally (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) and Shaune Fraser (George Town, Cayman Islands) who combined for 40 points. Florida returned the following afternoon to defeat both Purdue and Indian River Community College by the scores of 106-97 and 140-59.
The women, who swam only on Saturday, picked up a pair of wins, defeating SEC foe Arkansas, 114-86 and IRCC 136-54. Seniors Caroline Burckle (Louisville, Ky.) and Natalie Pike (Boca Raton, Fla.) each picked up a pair of victories to help lead the Gators to the win.
Florida's divers will also return home after traveling to the Georgia Diving Invitational in Athens last weekend. The Gators had solid performances from Monica Dodson (Franklin, Ind.), who finished fourth on the platform for the best finish by a Florida diver.
The Gators will take a week off following this weekend as they prepare to welcome SEC rival and defending national champion, Auburn University, to the O'Connell Center on January 26.
Swim meets are free of charge to the public and all fans are asked to enter through Gate 2.
