Jennifer Ulehla Named Assistant Coach for University of Florida Lacrosse

Jennifer Ulehla, an experienced collegiate and U.S. National team coach, has joined the University of Florida Lacrosse program as an assistant coach. She joins UF Head Coach Amanda O'Leary on the staff for the first Gator lacrosse team, which will make its premiere in the 2009-10 season.
Ulehla (pronounced You-la-LA) bring more than 14 years of coaching experience to the Gator program. This includes 10 years of NCAA Division I head coaching experience and four years of NCAA Division I assistant coaching experience with six NCAA tournament and one Final Four appearances in total. She has been a part of the U.S., Women's Lacrosse Team coaching staff since 2003, serving as the US Women's Developmental Team assistant coach from 2003-05 and is currently in her third season as an assistant coach for the U.S. Women's National Elite Team.
"The Florida lacrosse program is so fortunate to have Jenny become part of the Gator staff," O'Leary said. "Her experiences with the sport at the international and national levels will be so beneficial. Jenny is an excellent recruiter and will be a big part in building Florida into the top collegiate program we envision."
From 2004-2006, Ulehla served as the head coach for Temple University. In just two seasons with the Owls, Ulehla returned the Temple program to national prominence, helping it to a Top 20 ranking for the first time since the 2002 season. She compiled a 20-15 overall record and an 11-3 mark in the Atlantic 10, while producing three Regional All-Americans and seven All-Conference players, including an A-10 Offensive Player of the Year.
Prior to coaching at Temple, Ulehla enjoyed an impressive run as the head coach of James Madison University. Ulehla joined the JMU program in the summer of 1994 and led the Dukes to six NCAA appearances (1995, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001). The 2000 JMU team advanced to the NCAA semifinal round. The Dukes consistently ranked among the top 10 nationally during Ulehla's eight year stay. Ulehla also guided the Dukes to three championships and two second place finishes in the highly competitive Colonial Athletic Association. Thirteen of her JMU players were honored as All-Americans, and Ulehla was recognized as a two-time CAA Coach of the Year (1995, 2000).
Her coaching career started at Towson University, where she was the Interim Head Coach for the 1991-92 season. She then accepted an assistant coaching position at Dartmouth College for 1992-93, helping the Big Green to the NCAA Quarterfinals. Ulehla then move to Loyola College (Baltimore, Md.), where she was an assistant coach for the 1993-94 Greyhound team. Loyola College advanced to the 1994 NCAA semifinals and claimed the 1994 CAA title.
Ulehla played her first two seasons at Loyola College before transferring to the University of Maryland. She is listed among the program's all-time greats, earning All-America first-team honors in 1990 and a spot on the 1991 second-team. Ulehla was part of Maryland's NCAA runner-up teams in 1990 and 1991, and was named to the 1990 NCAA All-Tournament team. In 2002, Ulehla was named to the Atlantic Coast Conference's 50th Anniversary Lacrosse team.
She also was member of the U.S. National Team from 1990-95. She and O'Leary were both part of the U.S.'s 1993 World Cup championship team. Next month, Ulehla will be inducted into the Greater Baltimore Chapter of U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
She graduated with a bachelor's of arts degree in psychology from Maryland in 1991.
