Tuesday, January 29, 2008 | Men's Swimming & Diving
Freshman Logan Storie (Corvallis, Ore.) was named the SEC Male Freshman Swimmer of the week for his performance against Auburn as announced by the league office this afternoon.
Storie picked up his first career win in style, touching the wall in the 1,500 free 9.82 seconds ahead of the six other swimmers with a time of 15:41.70. The time serves as a career best for the freshman who also picked up his first provisional cut and qualified himself for the Olympic Trials in the event. Converted to the short-course equivalent, the time of 15:08.74 serves as the fifth fastest in the 1,650-yard free in the SEC.
Storie returned to win the 400 free, swimming to the wall with his second fastest time of the season at 4:02.70. Storie, who's season best came at the Alabama Invitational, is currently ranked sixth in the SEC with a converted time of 4:24.79 in the 500 free.
The Gators will return to action this weekend as they travel to Knoxville, Tennessee to take on the Volunteers of the University of Tennessee. The fifth-ranked men will swim at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
