With the Southeastern Conference meet quickly approaching, the University of Florida men's and women's swimming and diving teams will use one last warm up against SEC competition by traveling to Knoxville, Tennessee to take on No. 6/8 University of Tennessee.
The fifth ranked men (9-2, 3-1 SEC) and seventh ranked women (9-1, 4-1 SEC) will swim separately against the Volunteers, with the women hitting the water Friday evening at 7 p.m. and the men following on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Gators head to Tennessee fresh off their weekend meet with rival Auburn. Florida split the meet with the Tigers as the women defeated Auburn for the first time since the 1993-94 season, 165-135. The men dropped the meet by the same score.
The Gators will look to move closer to the .500 mark on the men's side with an overall record of 15-19 against the Vols. Tennessee is one of 16 schools on the women's side that head coach Gregg Troy has never lost to, boasting an overall record of 21-0 against the Vols.
Florida was led by Laurabeth Guenthner (Wellington, Fla.) and Logan Storie (Corvallis, Ore.) over the weekend. Both swimmers swept both the 400 and 1,500-meter freestyles and were honored by the SEC for their efforts. Guenthner earned Florida's second Female Swimmer of the Week this season while Storie was named Male Freshman of the Week, marking the third time this season that a Gator has won a Male Swimmer of the Week award this season.
Following the weekend trip to Tennessee, the Gators will return to Gainesville for their home finale this season. A ceremony honoring the seniors will take place prior to the 1:00 meet against Florida Atlantic.
