University of Florida senior Sha Brooks (Jackson, Tenn.) was presented the Sophia Witherspoon Award for Overall Excellence at the 20th Annual Office of Student Life (OSL) Awards Banquet held Monday evening at the Touchdown Terrace.
The annual event, which also honors all Gators who earned a spot on the 2007-08 Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll, recognizes UF student-athletes for their outstanding achievements in the classroom and their community service efforts.
The Sophia Witherspoon Award is presented each term to two individuals - one male and one female - who exemplify the positive attitude and strong work ethic in the classroom that they display on the playing field. It is one of the most prestigious awards presented by the Office of Student Life. The award was named after the former Gator Basketball standout because she exemplified the ideal student-athlete.
Brooks was honored as the 2008 Spring semester recipient of the Sophia Witherspoon Award.
Other members of the Gator women's basketball team honored at the banquet included:
Depree Bowden, SEC Academic Honor Roll
Ebonie Crawford, SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll
