UF Men's and Women's Hoops To Host Shooting With The Stars on Oct. 24

The University of Florida men's and women's basketball teams will host Shooting With The Stars, a fan appreciation event, on Friday October 24 at the Stephen C. O'Connell Center prior to Gator Growl.
Gates will open for the event at 4:30 p.m. with the first 500 fans receiving free box dinners, courtesy of Firehouse Subs. The first 1,000 fans will receive complimentary t-shirts, courtesy of Tobacco Free Florida.
The event begins at 5 p.m. with both teams autographing the new 2008-09 Florida basketball team posters. Fans will have until 6 p.m. to get autographs from all Gator men's and women's players.
At 6 p.m. the Shooting With The Stars program will begin. A number of fan-friendly activities will take place including the Alltel Wireless Shoot-out, a Citgo gas card giveaway and a half-court shot contest in which the prize will be a trip to the SEC men's basketball Tournament.
Additional competitions and prizes include the Shooting With the Stars IFC/Panhellenic Challenge in which the fraternity and sorority with the most fans checked in by 6 p.m. will receive checks for $1,000 from head coach Billy Donovan towards their philanthropies. Two UF students will win head-to-toe Nike gear, while other prizes will include a chance to eat a pre-game meal with the men's staff/team prior to an exhibition game, a chance to sit directly behind the men's bench during one of the exhibition games, a chance to attend a men's or women's practice and two tickets for the Florida-Georgia game.
The men's and women's squads will then participate in Dancing With The Stars as the men's players will be paired up with the Dazzlers and the women's players will be paired up with male cheerleaders.
The event is scheduled to conclude at 6:45 p.m., leaving fans ample time to walk across the street for Gator Growl.
