Monday, October 27, 2008 | Football
The Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award® today announced Florida junior quarterback Tim Tebow (Jacksonville, Fla.) as one of 13 semifinalists for the 2008 O'Brien Award, presented annually to the nation's best quarterback.
Tebow, the 2007 winner of the O'Brien Award, and the 12 other semifinalists will contend for the award until the list is narrowed to three finalists on Nov. 24. Five percent of the next round of voting lies in the The Fan Vote, which will re-open at 3 p.m. (EDT) Monday, with the voting total at zero. Gator fans can vote for Tebow once daily by visiting www.VoteOBrien.org.
Semifinalists were selected by The O'Brien Selection Committee, comprised of journalists, broadcasters, commentators and former winners, as well as fans across the country, with the top three quarterbacks from The O'Brien Fan Vote added to the list. Each candidate is evaluated on his quarterback skills, athletic ability, academics, character, leadership, sportsmanship and reputation as a team player.
All three finalists will be in attendance in Orlando, Fla., Dec. 11, where The O'Brien Winner will be announced during the airing of The Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards Show. The recipient will additionally be honored Feb. 16, 2009, at the 32nd Annual O'Brien Awards Dinner at The Fort Worth Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
Gator fans can also show their support for Tebow by stopping by The Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award® tent at this weekend's Florida vs. Georgia football game in Jacksonville, Fla. For more information about the O'Brien Award, visit www.DaveyOBrien.org.
