Football's Demps Earns Second SEC Honor of the Season

University of Florida freshman Jeff Demps (Winter Garden, Fla.) earned his second Southeastern Conference Player of the Week honor this season, as announced by the league on Monday. Demps was selected as the SEC Special Teams Player of the Week for his role in the Gators' 63-5 Homecoming victory over Kentucky. Demps previously earned SEC Freshman Player of the Week after the 38-7 win at Arkansas.
Demps led Florida as one of three players to block a kick in the victory on Saturday. His blocked punt in the first quarter versus Kentucky was his second this season, previously blocking a punt versus Miami. He now joins Ryan Smith and Reggie Nelson for the most punt blocks by a Gator player under Coach Meyer. His blocked punt was one of three for the Gators on the afternoon, including another blocked punt and a blocked Kentucky field goal attempt, all occurring in the first half. Florida's special teams' unit tied a school record for most blocked kicks in a single game.
In addition to his success on special teams, Demps led Florida in both rushing and receiving with seven carries for 50 yards and 67 receiving yards on four carries, including a career-long 61-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter. He also led the squad with 144 all-purpose yards versus Kentucky.
No. 5 Florida (6-1, 4-1) will travel to Jacksonville, Fla., to face No. 8 Georgia (7-1, 4-1) on Saturday, Nov. 1st. The game, set to kick off at 3:30 p.m., will be broadcast live by CBS.
