University of Florida junior quarterback Tim Tebow (Jacksonville, Fla.) earned the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week honor for his performance against Vanderbilt, the league office announced Monday.
Tebow accounted for five touchdowns in the 42-14 triumph over the Commodores as the Gators secured a spot in the SEC Championship Game against Alabama. Tebow led the Gators to touchdowns on six of their first seven possessions in the game. He completed 12-of-17 passes for 171 yards and three touchdown passes (12 yards to senior Louis Murphy, 11 yards to junior Riley Cooper and 41 yards to junior David Nelson). Tebow added 88 rushing yards, a season high, on 11 carries and reached the endzone twice (26 and 8 yard runs). His 26-yard touchdown run in the first quarter was the longest touchdown run of his career.
The reigning Heisman Trophy winner has now rushed for 10 touchdowns on the season and increased his school-record total to 41 career rushing touchdowns. In addition, Tebow has thrown for 17 touchdowns this season and 54 in his career, which tied John Reaves for seventh-most in Florida history. In the last three games, Tebow has accounted for 14 touchdowns (seven rushing, seven passing).
The Gators (8-1, 6-1 SEC) return to The Swamp on Saturday for their final conference game of the year against No. 24/23 South Carolina at 3:30 p.m.
