Football's Rainey Selected As SEC Freshman Of The Week

Redshirt freshman running back Chris Rainey (Lakeland, Fla.) was selected as the SEC Freshman Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday. The recognition comes after the Gators' 70-19 victory over The Citadel.
Rainey had a career-best day against The Citadel, accumulating 142 yards on seven carries and one touchdown, including a 73-yard advance that was almost a touchdown. His performance over the Bulldogs marked the second 100-yard performance for Rainey this season, as he rushed for 103 in Florida's 38-7 win at Arkansas. His 142 yards on the ground accounted for almost half of the Gators' 394 total rushing yards on Saturday.
Propelled by his performance versus The Citadel, Rainey now leads the squad in rushing yards on the season with 557. He is averaging 7.5 yards per carry and 50.6 yards per game. He is currently tied for fourth with teammate Kestahn Moore (Arlington, Texas) for rushing touchdowns this season (four).
The Gators travel to Tallahassee on Saturday to face Florida State at 3:30 p.m. ET. The game will be aired live on ABC.
