Gercsak Named SEC Male Swimmer of the Week
Wednesday, November 5, 2008 | Men's Swimming & Diving
For his first-place finishes in the 200-yard free and 500-yard free against Georgia Oct. 30, Gator sophomore Balazs Gercsak (Budapest, Hungary) was named the SEC Male Swimmer of the Week, announced by the conference office Wednesday.
In UF's 139-102 victory over the Bulldogs, Gercsak clocked in at 1:37.57 in the 200 free and recorded a 4:24.39 500-yard free swim. Gercsak's 500-yard free was good for a NCAA provisional qualifying time, and also marks the fastest 200 and 500 free times for both UF and the Southeastern Conference so far this season. The two event victories were the first individual victories of Gercsak's career as a Gator.
Gercsak's accolade marks the third-straight week one or more Florida swimmers and divers have been honored by the conference office.
The Gators will be back in action Nov. 8 when they host the South Carolina Gamecocks at 2 p.m. at the O'Connell Center Natatorium.
