University of Florida running backs Jeffery Demps (Winter Garden, Fla.) and Chris Rainey (Lakeland, Fla.) join defensive backs Will Hill (West Orange, N.J.) and Janoris Jenkins (Pahokee, Fla.) on the 2008 Coaches' Freshman All-SEC team, the league office announced on Thursday. The Gators also had four selections to the Coaches' Freshman All-SEC team in 2007.
Demps is second on the team in rushing with 582 yards on just 69 carries. His 8.4 yards per carry is third in the nation among all qualified players. He has seven rushing touchdowns on the season and also has 15 receptions for 141 yards and a touchdown. Demps is also a force on special teams, with two blocked punts to his credit on the season.
Rainey leads the Gators in rushing with 655 yards and four touchdowns on the season. He averaged 7.9 yards per carry on the season, fifth-best in the country. Rainey had two 100-yard rushing games this season, and came just short of a third with 97 yards at Florida State.
Hill ranks sixth on the team and leads all freshmen with 45 tackles on the season, including 1.5 tackles-for-loss. He began the season as a special teams demon, and led the team with 21 special teams tackles. Hill also intercepted two passes on the season.
Jenkins finished the season with 34 tackles, ninth on the team and second among freshman. He led the team with 11 pass-breakups, which tied for first among freshman nationally. Jenkins intercepted three passes on the season, the most among all freshman in the SEC this season.
