Gainesville, Fla. – The 36th edition of the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational will come to the Mark Bostick Golf Course Friday through Sunday as the fifth-ranked Florida women's team hosts a 16-team field. Florida will look to earn its third straight crown on its home course after coming off a runner-up performance at the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge last week in Palos Verdes , Calif, to kick off the spring schedule.
The Lady Gators will feature two teams, an “A” and a “B” squad. A practice round will begin at 8 a.m. on Thursday with a shotgun start while first-round action opens Friday morning at 8:30 a.m.
“Everyone on the team is excited,” head coach Jill Briles-Hinton said. “Family and friends will be out to support them and it's going to be a great and fun event. They're going out there to defend and hopefully one of them will bring home a title as well.”
The senior duo of Whitney Myers (East Berlin, Pa.) and Tiffany Chudy (Miramar, Fla.) will lead the Lady Gators at the top of the lineup. Chudy tied for fifth last year after carding a final-round 68, tied for the event's third-lowest round in its 36-year history. Myers placed 11th and is coming off a runner-up showing in California along with freshman Jessica Yadloczky (Casselberry, Fla.).
The freshmen Yadloczky and Hannah Yun (Bradenton, Fla.), will be competing in their first Lady Gator Invitational. Redshirt junior Ornella Jouven (La Ciotat, France) is another experienced player who tied for 24th last year and has finished as high as 19th as a freshman in 2006.
Headlining the UF “B” team is redshirt sophomore Brittany Nelson (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) and redshirt freshman Nicole Schachner (Libertyville, Ill.), taking the No. 1 and No. 2 slots, respectively.
Senior Eleanor Tucker (Wilson, N.C.) tied for 11th at last year's Lady Gator Invitational with Myers on the strength of a second-round score of 71, tied for her career low. She will take the No. 3 spot in the Florida “B” lineup.
Redshirt junior Laura Erzisnisk (Coral Springs, Fla.) will compete in her first career tournament as a Lady Gator and C.J. Kim (Rowland Heights, Calif.) rounds out the rotation, competing in her first event since the Auburn Derby in 2006.
The three-day tournament is open to the public and free to attend. Live scoring of the event will be made available on www.golfstat.com.
