Gators Open SEC Tournament Play Thursday vs. Alabama
Sunday, March 9, 2008 | Men's Basketball
The University of Florida will open SEC Tournament play against Alabama on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. as the fourth seed in the SEC East. The game will be broadcast live on Raycom.
The Gators enter the event as the three-time defending champions, and winners of 18 straight postseason games, the longest streak since the John Wooden-era UCLA Bruins won 28 straight in the midst of their run of seven straight NCAA titles.
Florida has a 4-6 all-time record against Alabama in the SEC Tournament, however, the Gators have won their last three SEC tourney encounters, all falling between 2001-05. The Gators have won 11 of 13 overall against the Tide, including a 90-83 victory on January 8 in the SEC opener for both, the only meeting between the two this year.
The winner of the Florida-Alabama game will play SEC West champion Mississippi State on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
