Former Gator Swimmer Lochte Sets Second World Record

Florida swimmers, both past and present, continued to have a strong showing at the 2008 Short Course World Championships in Manchester, England as former Gator Ryan Lochte set his second world record of the meet, this time in the 200 individual medley.
Lochte, who picked up his first world record of the meet as part of the 400-meter freestyle relay team, swam to the wall with a time of 1:51.56 to smash the previous record of 1:52.99. Lochte also placed fourth in the 50-meter free earlier in the evening with a time of 21.44. The former Gator's time was .63 seconds behind leader and world record breaker Duje Draganja's time of 20.81.
Gators Brett Fraser and Bobby Walsh also turned in top swims in the 400-meter free and 200 IM. Fraser touched in with a time of 4:00.74 in the 400 free to place 32nd, while Walsh was 28th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:04.66.
Women's swimmer Stephanie Proud earned a 10th place finish in the 200-meter back, barely missing the championship final with a time of 2:08.39.
All four swimmers will be in action on the fourth day of the championships tomorrow. The Short Course World Championships will continue through the weekend, wrapping up on Sunday.
