Former Gator Swimmer Lochte Breaks Third World Record on Fourth Day of World Championships

Former University of Florida swimmer, Ryan Lochte, broke his third world record in four days at the Short Course World Championships, this time in the 100-meter individual medley.
The 100 IM is not an event that is swum in long course meters or short course yards, but with the world championships being swum in short course meters, it is swum only under these types of circumstances.
Lochte used a time of 51.25 to break the old record by .27 seconds. The swim was just a semi-final heat and Lochte will have the opportunity to break his own record tomorrow in the championship final. The former Gator finished the race 1.02 seconds ahead of the second place finisher.
The 2004 Olympian also picked up a time of 27.34 to finish 10th in the 50 breast. Lochte's time was .44 seconds off the leader and was one of 11 to finish under half a second behind the first place finisher.
Lochte as well as several current Gators will be in action again tomorrow for the final day of the World Championships.
