Thursday, April 24, 2008 | Football
Quarterback Tim Tebow joined University president Dr. Bernie Machen on a visit to the state Capitol on Thursday. The pair met with Governor Charlie Crist at the Governor's mansion.
Prior to meeting with the Governor, Tebow and Machen met with members of both the Senate and House of Representatives, including Senate President Ken Pruitt and Speaker of the House Marco Rubio, and were recognized on both the Senate and House floors.
Tebow made NCAA history after becoming the first sophomore in history to win the Heisman Trophy, in addition to receiving the Maxwell and O'Brien Awards. Also named the AP SEC Offensive Player of Year, Tebow enjoyed a record-breaking season that included tying the NCAA single-season rushing touchdown record by a quarterback with 22. An All-SEC first-team selection by both the league's coaches and the AP, Tebow also became the first quarterback in college football history to pass for 20 and rush for 20 touchdowns.
