Former Florida swimmer Ryan Lochte entered the water first for the United States and led his 400 free relay team to a record setting win at the 2008 World Short Course Championships in Manchester, England.
The American's smashed Sweden's record by 1.13 seconds en route to the victory. Lochte was a main component of American's historic swim, touching the wall with a split time of 47.09 to put the U.S. nearly two seconds ahead of record pace right away. Teammates Bryan Lundquist, Nathan Adrian and Doug Van Wie followed Lochte, keeping pace with the record.
This win, marks the third time that the U.S. has claimed gold in the 400 free relay, also winning the event in 2002 and 2004.
Lochte will continue his quest for more records and victories at this year's short course world championships, as the meet moves forward, concluding on April 13.
