No. 2/13 T&F Captures Three Victories At Twi-Light Invitational
Saturday, May 10, 2008 | Track and Field
The No. 2 (men)/12 (women) University of Florida track & field team opened the Twi-Light Invitational on Friday with a trio of victories, while junior Justin Semeyn (Tampa, Fla.) also improved his NCAA regional mark in the men's pole vault on the evening.
“This is a low-key meet, and the reason we came here was to get ourselves in the right frame of mind for the conference meet,” Florida jumps and multi-events coach Rana Reider said. “We talk a lot about taking care of ourselves and not worrying about what's going on around us, and the atmosphere here will help prepare us for that. This is a great weekend to sharpen up for the SEC meet, while also continuing to build momentum heading into regionals. Justin Semeyn had a nice PR, and it was great to see him show how much he's improved over the course of the season.”
Junior Justin Semeyn (Tampa, Fla.) tied for first in the men's pole vault with a career-best and NCAA regional-qualifying clearance of 5.20m/17-0.75, marking the second victory of his career. The effort also topped his season and career-best marks by a full six inches. Redshirt freshman Eric Foran (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) and senior Kurt Lee (Spring Hill, Fla.) each cleared 4.90m/16-0.75 to finish third and fourth, respectively.
Senior Wes Stockbarger (Port Charlotte, Fla.) added a victory in the men's discus with a heave of 59.22m/194-3, while sophomore Star Sansone (Boca Raton, Fla.) paced the field in the women's javelin with a toss of 44.50m/146-0.
The Gators will wrap up the Twi-Light Invitational tomorrow with field events scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. and running events slated to start an hour later. Results will be available via www.GatorZone.com.
