Baseball's Mullaney Collects Summer League Accolade

Florida right-hander Kyle Mullaney (Jacksonville, Fla.) was chosen as the Pitcher of the Week for the Orlando Suns of the Florida State Collegiate Summer League on Monday. He worked 6.2 innings and picked up the 2-1 victory over Clermont on June 13 by limiting the Mavericks to three hits and one run. Mullaney notched six strikeouts and is 1-0 in two starts this season with a 2.31 earned run average in 11.2 innings. Opponents are batting just .238 against him.
During his sophomore season for the Gators, the righty was 3-4, compiled a 5.16 ERA and led the Orange and Blue with three saves. Mullaney worked a total of 45.1 innings, spanning 23 appearances and five starts, and registered 29 strikeouts. His biggest win of the campaign occurred on May 17, when he hurled three innings and was the pitcher of record in the 13-12 triumph over No. 13 Vanderbilt that clinched the third seed for the 2008 SEC Tournament on the final day of the regular season.
