Clark Burckle Leads Gators on First Day of 2008 U.S. Open

Clark Burckle (Louisville, Ky.) led the Gators in the final heat of the 200-meter breaststroke, clocking a time of 2:14.03, good for a fourth-place finish in the event on the first evening of finals at the 2008 U.S. Open at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center Tuesday.
Rising senior Lindsay Woodward (Assonet, Mass.) raced to a 19th-place finish in the 200-meter butterfly, clocking a time of 2:16.15 after clocking a career-best 2:15.26 in preliminaries. Woodward previously achieved a career-best time at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Omaha July 2 (2:17.33).
In distance freestyle action, Logan Storie (Corvallis, Ore.) swam his way to the top-finish for the UF men in the 1500-meter freestyle, placing sixth with a final time of 15:29.26, just shy of his career-best 15:27.01 from the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials.
Scott Thompson (Birmingham, Mich.) recorded a time of 15:57.48, good for a 25th-place finish, while Gator Eric Shrestha (Tallahassee, Fla.) finished 33rd with a time of 16:09.93.
In finals of the 800-meter freestyle, Gators Laurabeth Guenthner (Wellington, Fla.) and Liz Goldson (Glen Cove, N.Y.) finished fourth and 10th, respectively, in the event. Guenthner finished in 8:41.12 after recording a 8:36.79 career-best mark at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials where she placed seventh overall July 5. Goldson clocked in at 8:48.69 in the 800, falling just shy of her recent career-best mark also set during prelims of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials July 4 (8:45.44).
Rising sophomore Madison Parker (Biloxi, Miss.) swam a career-best mark in the 800 free Tuesday evening, placing 19th with a time of 8:54.78, topping her previous recorded personal best of 9:11.30 set at the dual meet against Georgia during the 2007-08 season.
The second day of the 2008 U.S. Open will continue from the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center Wednesday according to the following schedule:
