Six Gator Baseball Players Make SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll

Six members of the Gator baseball team were named to the Southeastern Conference Freshman Academic Honor Roll on Tuesday, as Adam Allen (Milton, Fla.), Cody Barnes (San Mateo, Fla.), Chris Freshcorn (Tampa, Fla.), Travis Lawler (College Station, Texas), Justin Poovey (Granite Falls, N.C.) and Tommy Toledo (Tampa, Fla.) were recognized for their work in the classroom. Head coach Kevin O'Sullivan's club had the third-most recipients in the league behind Vanderbilt (eight) and South Carolina (seven).
A total of 549 freshmen student-athletes were named to the 2008 SEC Freshmen Academic Honor Roll by SEC Commissioner Mike Slive. A total of 2,340 student-athletes around the league earned Academic Honor Roll recognition in 2007-08.
The University of Florida and the University of South Carolina shared the top of the list with 66 freshmen student-athletes on each academic roster. Next in line were the University of Alabama (56) and the University of Kentucky (52).
To be recognized to the SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must 1) have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship or a letterwinner; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
