Eight Freshmen Earn Spots on the 2008 SEC Freshmen Academic Honor Roll

The Gators led Southeastern Conference softball with eight players named to the SEC Freshmen Academic Honor Roll, which was announced Tuesday by Commissioner Mike Slive.
Kristen Adkins(McKinney, Texas), Ami Austin (Ormond Beach, Fla.), Stephanie Brombacher (Pembroke Pines, Fla) , Megan Bush (Anaheim Hills, Calif.), Tiffany DeFelice (Coral Springs, Fla.), Shaunice Harris (Moreno Valley, Calif.), Aja Paculba (Wildomar, Calif.) and Kristine Priebe (Moorpark, Calif.) earned spots among the 66 Florida student-athletes to make the 549-player list.
Brombacher, Bush, DeFlice and Paculba, were also honored with SEC All-Freshman team bids earlier in the year. Paculba was named to the All-SEC second team as well.
Arkansas and Mississippi State tied for the second-most softball players with five each. Four players from Mississippi, South Carolina and Tennessee earned the accolade, while Alabama, Auburn, Georgia, Kentucky and Louisiana State each named three.
Florida tied with South Carolina to garner the top spot among all SEC teams. Alabama was third with 56 student-athletes and Kentucky fourth with 52. To be recognized to the SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must 1) have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship or a letterwinner; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
