Both first-year members of the University of Florida's gymnastics team were named to the 2007-08 Southeastern Conference Freshman Academic Honor Roll, released Tuesday by league commissioner Mike Slive. The 2008 SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2007-08 academic year.
Lynn Denblyden and Alicia Goodwin earned spots on the SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll. Earlier this year, Florida placed eight on the SEC Academic Honor Roll (Amanda Castillo, Courtney Gladys, Corey Hartung, Ashley Kerr, Tiffany Murry, Ashley Reed, Nicola Willis and Rebekah Zaiser). Zaiser was named the 2008 SEC Scholar-Athlete for the sport of gymnastics - a first for the Florida program.
To be recognized to the SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letterwinner; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
