Three first-year members of the University of Florida's soccer team were named Tuesday to the 2007-08 Southeastern Conference Freshman Academic Honor Roll by league commissioner Mike Slive. The 2008 SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2007-08 academic year.
Meghan Berlingo, Gianna Marie Cavuoto and Alyshah Smith all earned a spot on the SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll.
Earlier this year, Florida placed 14 on the SEC Academic Honor Roll (Stacy Bishop, Jessica Eicken, Bianca Gibbs, Ashley Harris, Caitlin Howard, Lauren Hyde, Megan Kerns, Shelley Lyle, Angela Napolitano, Vanessa Rangel, Anne Rose, Liz Ruberry, Jenny Taylor and Tricia Townsend).
To be recognized on the SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letterwinner; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
