Gene Ellenson: A True Gator Legend, a book by the late Florida football coach and athletic administrator, is now available for purchase. The book is a collection of short stories, all written by Ellenson in his trademark style and wit.
Ellenson dedicated 35 years of his life to the university and athletic program as assistant head football coach in the 1960s, executive secretary of Gator Boosters in the 1970s and 1980s, and consultant in the 1990s. Over that entire stretch, Ellenson served as a source of motivation for the Gators' players and fans, especially the 1991 football team that captured the school's first official Southeastern Conference title.
“The collection of Ellenson stories and thoughts is a wonderful read,” UF Assistant Athletics Director and historian Norm Carlson said. “The man was a war hero, an athlete, a coach, a capable journalist and, above all, a great human being. It was a treasure to know him.”
