The University of Florida men's golf team is ranked No. 7 in the latest preseason College Coaches' Poll released by Golf World on Tuesday. Senior Billy Horschel (Grant, Fla.) was named the No. 3 player in the list of the “Top 50 Male Players to Watch.”
The Gators are coming off an 11th place finish at last year's NCAA Championships and have six letterwinners returning. UF has qualified for the NCAA Championships 25 out of the last 26 years.
Horschel finished last season with top-10 finishes in the SEC Championship, NCAA Central Regional and NCAA Championship. He is a three time All-American and led the team with a 71.69 stroke average last season.
UCLA, the defending NCAA champions, are ranked first in the preseason poll, followed by Oklahoma State, Georgia, Southern California, Stanford and Clemson to round out the top six.
Rickie Fowler, a sophomore from Oklahoma State and first-team All-American, is number one on Golf World's list of the “Top 50 Male Players to Watch.” USC's Jamie Lovemark is the No. 2 ranked player.
