Former Gator running back Errict Rhett will be recognized at today's game against Ole Miss for his selection as an AT&T SEC Legend.
Now in its 15th year, the “Legends of SEC Football” program has been honoring players who've made outstanding contributions on and off the field. This year, Rhett will be honored at the 2008 Football Championship in Atlanta, along with inductees from each school across the Southeastern Conference.
"I'm very honored to be receiving this award and recognition from UF and the SEC," Rhett said. "I'm proud to be a Gator and look forward to representing our great program"
As a University of Florida player from 1990-93, Rhett completed his career with a school record of 4,163 yards rushing. Rhett was also the first Division I-A player to rush for over 4,100 yards and catch 140 or more passes. In 1993, Rhett was selected as a first-team All-American and also received first-team All-SEC honors in 1991 and 1993. Rhett is one of only two running backs in UF history to gain over 1,000 yards in a season, a feat both he and Emmitt Smith accomplished twice.
Rhett went on to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the 34th overall draft in 1994. That same year, Rhett claimed the NFC Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. During his seven-year NFL career, Rhett also played with the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns.
