UF Women's Golf Kicks of 2008-09 Season at NCAA Fall Preview
Saturday, September 6, 2008 | Women's Golf
The University of Florida Lady Gator golfers will open the 2008-09 season on Sunday and Monday, Sept. 7 and 8, at the NCAA Fall Preview in Owing Mills, Md. The two-day, 54-hole tournament will take place at the Caves Valley Golf Course. The par-70, 7,206-yard course will also host the 2009 NCAA Women's Golf NCAA Championships.
Florida returns four letterwinners from the reigning SEC and NCAA East Regional champions squad that took home five tournament titles on the season. The 2008 SEC Coach of the Year, Jill Briles-Hinton, returns for her 11th season at the helm for the Lady Gators. First-year assistant head coach Jay Goble will make his Orange and Blue debut at the tournament. Goble previously served as an instructor at the David Ledbetter Gold Academy since 2004.
The squad will be led by sophomore Jessica Yadloczky (Casselberry, Fla). Yadloczky took home first-team All-SEC, SEC All-Freshman team and second-team Duramed FUTURES Tour All-America honors following her standout freshman season at Florida.
Newcomer Evan Jensen (Bellaire, Fla.) will make her first appearance for the Orange and Blue from the No. 2 spot. Redshirt sophomore Lauren Uzelatz (Lakeland, Fla.), redshirt junior Brittany Nelson (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.) and freshman Andrea Watts (Bradenton, Fla.) will round out the starting rotation, respectively.
The NCAA Fall Preview will serve as a preview for the NCAA Championships to be held on May 19-22. Fourteen of the 15 teams in the field were included in the Golf World/NGCA Coaches Preseason Poll. Including Florida, five schools from the Southeastern Conference will be participating in the NCAA Preview, more than any other Division I conference.
The Lady Gators will face Alabama, Arizona State, Arkansas, Auburn, Denver, Duke, Georgetown, Georgia, Oklahoma State, Purdue, Southern Cal, Texas A&M, Virginia and Wake Forest.
The Gators will open the 2008 fall season on Sunday, with a shotgun start set at 8 a.m. Live scoring for the NCAA Fall Preview will be available at www.golfstat.com and www.GatorZone.com.
