University of Florida junior defensive end Jermaine Cunningham (Stone Mountain, Ga.) has been named the Southeastern Conference Defensive Lineman of the Week following the Gators' 26-3 home victory over Miami, the league office announced Monday. Cunningham's selection marks the second-consecutive week a Gator has taken an SEC Player of the Week honor, as junior athlete Brandon James (St. Augustine, Fla.) took home the special teams' award following the season opener versus Hawaii.
Cunningham collected nine total tackles (five solo) with two for a loss, including a quarterback sack for a loss of eight yards. He currently leads the Orange and Blue in total tackles (11), tackles for a loss (3.5) and sacks (2.5).
The defensive end helped limit Miami to three points, the fewest the Gators have allowed the Hurricanes since an 18-0 shutout in 1960.
