Thirty-seven University of Florida football players were named to the 2008-09 Southeastern Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll on Wednesday by league commissioner Mike Slive. Florida had a total of 53 student-athletes named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll, which ranked third among the SEC schools. Kentucky led with 60 named to the list, while South Carolina was second with 59.
The 2008-09 SEC Winter Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2008 Spring, Summer and Fall terms.
Florida's 2008 BCS National Championship team and Vanderbilt each placed a league-record 37 on the football SEC Academic Honor Roll. The league's previous high for football was 36 by Vanderbilt's 2002 team. Florida's previous high for football came in 2004 when 26 were named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll.
Senior punter Bobby Kane (Coconut Creek) turned in a perfect 4.0 grade point average for the year.
