University of Florida's Erika Tymrak (Lakewood Ranch, Fla.) is the Southeastern Conference's Freshman Soccer Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon. Other award winners this week include Mississippi senior Danielle Johnson (SEC Offensive Player of the Week) and Kentucky junior goalkeeper Sydney Hiance (SEC Defensive Player of the Week).
Tymrak tallied a pair of goals and assists in Florida's wins last weekend versus Alabama (2-0) and Auburn (4-0). Her first goal of the weekend came in the 81st minute of the Oct. 9 match versus Alabama. In the Gators' next match, Tymrak turned in an assist for Florida's first and final goals. She also hit Florida's second goal in the match versus Auburn off a 15-yard strike.
A starter at midfield in every match this season, Tymrak has turned in a goal in three of Florida's last five matches. She now shares second among UF scorers with roommate Brooke Thigpen, as each have turned in five goals and three assists for 13 points. Thigpen was named the SEC Freshman Player of the Week on Sept. 14.
Tymrak is part of the 2009 U.S. National Under-20 player pool and was part of the U.S. National team that was runner-up at the 2008 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in New Zealand. She was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas Girls Youth All-America team in 2008.
Next up, the Gators travel to meet Tennessee (7-5-2, 3-2-1 SEC) on Friday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. (ET). Friday's match will be broadcast on SUN Sports (channel 48 on Gainesville/Ocala Cox Cable). The match can also be heard live with Mike Gillespie calling the action on AM 850 WRUF or via simulcast on Gainesville/Ocala Cox Cable channel 946 and www.GatorZone.com.
