Lacrosse Set to Open Fall 2009 Schedule on Saturday

The inaugural University of Florida women's lacrosse team will open their fall exhibition schedule on Saturday, Oct. 3, at the University of Florida Lacrosse Complex. The Gators will take on Jacksonville University and Rollins College in a round-robin style tournament.
The matches on Saturday will begin at 12 p.m., with Florida taking on Jacksonville. The second match will feature Rollins and Jacksonville at 2 p.m. The Gators will play Rollins in the final game of the day at 4 p.m. Each game will consist of two 30-minute halves, with a 10-minute interval for halftime.
This marks the first year of varsity lacrosse for both Florida and Jacksonville, while Rollins finished 13-2 last year in NCAA Division II.
The Gators will take part in three more exhibition tournaments this fall as well as an exhibition match against Duke. In all, UF will face eight of the 16 teams that qualified for the 2009 NCAA Division I Lacrosse Championship in their fall schedule.
Florida will travel north for the prestigious Princeton Fall Tournament on Oct. 17. They will play five 30-minute running clock games against five of the NCAA Quarterfinalists from 2009, including NCAA runner-up North Carolina and five-time defending national champion Northwestern. The Gators will also play Syracuse, Penn and Princeton.
On Saturday, Oct. 24, UF will play an exhibition match against Duke and remain in Durham for the Duke Fall Invitational on Sunday, Oct. 25. Florida will take on Richmond, Davidson, Duke, Virginia Tech and Louisville in 30-minute running clock games.
The final event of the fall will be the Georgetown Tournament in Washington, D.C. on Oct. 31. The Gators will start the day with a match against NCAA semifinalist Maryland and will also face Loyola and NCAA Tournament participant Georgetown. Matches will be played with two 20-minute halves.
The official start to the 2010 season will come in February, with the Gators first home match scheduled for Feb. 20 against Jacksonville.
