Florida Soccer's McKenzie Barney Named to Two National Teams of the Week
Monday, October 26, 2009 | Soccer
After playing a part in each of the game-winning goals in the Gators' Southeastern Conference wins last weekend, University of Florida redshirt freshman McKenzie Barney was named to two national teams of the week on Monday. She is the second Gator to appear on the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week this season, as senior Lauren Hyde was named to the team on Aug. 31 and sophomore Lindsay Thompson appeared on the Sept. 28 team. Barney joins freshman Brooke Thigpen and sophomore Tahnai Annis as Gators appearing on CollegeSoccer360's Primetime Performers list this season.
In her first home start, Barney turned in the first and final goals in UF's 4-0 win versus No. 17 LSU on Thursday, Oct. 22. Barney's header goal off a corner kick at 4:40 of the LSU match was the quickest goal scored by the Gators this season. She also scored late in the match, tapping in the ball from eight yards off the cross from Thompson. In Florida's 1-0 win at Arkansas on Sunday, Oct. 25, it was Barney who made the final touch out to Thompson, where she scored from eight yards to give UF the final 1-0 margin.
Barney has started the last three matches for the Gators. She is tied for third among the Gators in season goals (5) and fifth with 11 points. All of her goals have come in league play and she is among a four-way tie for third in the league for goals in SEC play.
