Football's Henry Selected As 2009 Ray Guy Award Semifinalist

University of Florida punter Chas Henry (Dallas, Ga.) is one of ten semifinalists for the 2009 Ray Guy Award, as announced by the Augusta Sports Council on Friday. The Ray Guy Award identifies the nation's top collegiate punter.
Henry, who was also a semifinalist in 2008, has punted 25 times for 1,072 yards (42.9 average) in 2009. Nine of his punts have landed inside the 20-yard line and Vanderbilt's six-yard punt return in the first quarter was the first return Florida has allowed through the first nine games this season.
Henry was named the SEC Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in the 27-3 win over the Commodores. Henry punted four times for 211 yards for a season-best average of 52.8 yards. He had three punts over 50 yards, including two of 58 yards, giving him six punts of 50+ yards on the season.
This year's 42 nominees were evaluated on their overall statistics and contribution to the team. Particular emphasis was placed on the following statistics: net punting average, percentage of total punts inside the 20-yard line, and percentage of punts not returned.
A national voting body of Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) coaches, sports information directors, national media and former Ray Guy Award winners will decide the three award finalists, who will be named on November 23. Voters will then cast a second round of ballots to decide the winner.
The winner of the 10th Ray Guy Award will be announced live on ESPN during the Home Depot ESPNU College Football Awards show on Thursday, December 10. The winner will again be honored at the All Area Football Banquet presented by the Augusta Sports Council and The Augusta Chronicle in late-January 2010.
