Florida Places Three on TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Season
Friday, November 13, 2009 | Soccer
Three University of Florida players appear on TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Season, the outlet released this morning. Junior Katie Fraine is the goalkeeper for the first team and senior center back Lauren Hyde appears on the second team backline. Freshman midfielder Erika Tymrak is an All-Rookie Team second-team selection.
Both Fraine and Hyde were 2009 All-Southeastern Conference first-team selections. Fraine (Titusville, Fla./Titusville H.S.) led the SEC with her goals-against-average of 0.61 in league play. Fraine has registered a career-high nine shutouts in 2009, including seven of the last nine matches. She shares the 2009 lead in shutouts in SEC matches (6) with LSU's Mo Isom. During the course of the 2009 season, Fraine has played more than 2,050 minutes in goal for UF – the top total among the SEC's goalkeepers – and owns a season goals-against-average of 0.75.
Earlier this month, Hyde (Carmel, Ind./Bishop Chatard H.S.) became the first Gator to pick up the SEC Defensive Player of the Year award since the league began naming an offensive and defensive player of the year in 2004. Hyde made her fourth appearance on an All-SEC team in 2009 (first team in 2006 & 2007; second team in 2008) – joining former Gators Danielle Murphy and Abby Wambach as the other Florida players to earn a spot on an All-SEC team each year. She has played the entirety of 15 matches this season and leads UF with her average of 90.2 minutes per match from her center back position. She has also scored two goals and contributed four assists in 2009.
Tymrak (Lakewood Ranch, Fla./Edison Academic Center) was named to the SEC All-Freshman team prior to the league tournament. She leads UF with seven assists, second in points (17) and shares fourth in goals (5). She's appeared in every match this season, starting 19. Tymrak is also part of the U.S. National Under-20 Player Pool.
Florida, a No. 3 regional seed for the 2009 NCAA Soccer Championship, meets Illinois State today at 5 p.m. at The Ohio State University's Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Live, streaming video of Friday's match can be seen at www.GatorZone.com or at www.OhioStateBuckeyes.com.
