Payne Denman (Riverwatch, Tenn.) signed a National Letter of Intent to continue his academic and athletic career at the University of Florida beginning in 2010, men's golf head coach Buddy Alexander announced on Monday morning.
“We think Payne will be a terrific asset to our program,” said Alexander. “He has a great looking swing and has had an enormous amount of success. He fits the mold of what we are looking for to a tee. I'm very confident that he will have a terrific career here and will make an immediate impact. We expect him to contribute as a freshman. He's a quality kid that we're excited to have as part of our program.”
Denman is currently ranked 12th in the 2010 class by the American Junior Golf Association. He claimed back-to-back first place titles at the TSSAA Division A-AA State High School Championships in 2008 and 2009 as a member of the DeKalb County High School golf program. His two state titles are the only state championships DCHS has ever earned in any sport in school history. He also claimed three district and regional titles while at DeKalb.
Denman, an honorable mention AJGA All-American, had three top-five finishes in the 2009 junior golf season. He took home first place at the Burgett H. Mooney, Jr. Rome Classic, tied for second at the Ringgold Telephone Company Junior Classic and most recently posted a fourth place finish at The PING Invitational in early October.
