Shaune Fraser Garners National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week Honors
Tuesday, November 3, 2009 | Men's Swimming & Diving
For the second time this season, University of Florida men's swimming All-American Shaune Fraser (George Town, Cayman Islands) was named the National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week, earning recognition for his dual meet performance in UF's win over conference rival Georgia Oct. 30. The Gators (3-0, 1-0 SEC) defeated the Bulldogs, 139-104, to improve to 58-15-2 all-time against UGA.
Fraser helped UF to its third dual meet win of the 2009-10 season and aided the Gators in opening up SEC swimming & diving competition with a win. In the victory over the Bulldogs, Fraser took first place individually in both the 200 fly (1:46.59) and 200 IM (1:50.12), while helping the UF 400-yard medley relay to a victory with a 47.42 butterfly leg. Both Fraser's 200 fly swim and Florida's 400 medley relay race surpassed 2010 NCAA provisional qualifying marks.
The defending 200 butterfly NCAA champion and record holder has now set “B” cuts in both the 100 and 200-yard butterfly events and holds the top times in the 100 fly, 200 fly and 200 IM in the Southeastern Conference, as well as for the Gators.
Fraser was last honored with CollegeSwimming.com's National Collegiate Swimmer of the Week accolade Oct. 14 for his performances against ACC opponent Virginia in the 2009-10 season opener.
Florida will take to the water for a two-week training period before heading to the Georgia Tech Invitational, Nov. 19-21, where the Gators will compete with the teams from Clemson, FIU, FSU, Gardner-Webb, Georgia Tech and NC State.
