Allie Will Earns No. 6 Seed at National Indoor Tennis Championships
Wednesday, November 4, 2009 | Women's Tennis
University of Florida freshman Allie Will (Boca Raton, Fla.) is the No. 6 seed at the ITA National Indoor Tennis Championships that begins Thursday at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center in New Haven, Conn.
Will's first-round opponent is Jessie Rhee of Yale University, which is hosting the four-day event, considered the second leg of the collegiate Grand Slam. Will and Rhee are two of seven unranked competitors in the 32-player singles draw.
The Gator rookie has had a phenomenal season to date that resulted in her earning the No. 6 seed despite not having a national singles ranking. Will won the ITA Southeast Regional that gave her an automatic spot in this event, winning six singles matches in four days. She sports a 19-2 overall singles record and has won 11 of her last 12 matches, with the lone loss a 7-6, 7-6 decision to Georgia's second-ranked Chelsey Gullickson in the quarterfinals of the Riviera All-American Championships.
This is the final weekend of competition for the fall season, as the rest of the Gator squad traveling to Chapel Hill, N.C., to participate in the North Carolina Invitational, Nov. 6-8.
