Marsha Harper Named to SEC Soccer Community Service Team

University of Florida sophomore Marsha Harper is the UF representative for the 2009 Southeastern Conference Soccer Community Service Team, the league announced Saturday. The SEC has a Community Service Team for all 20 sports it sponsors. The soccer Community Service Team is made up of 12 soccer players, one from each competing institution. The Community Service Team highlights an athlete from each school who gives back to their community in superior service efforts.

This year, Harper has participated in more than 10 Goodwill Gator activities in the 2009 calendar year. Her activities include taking part in the team's preparation of a meal at Gainesville's St. Francis House – Homeless Shelter & Soup Kitchen. She also joined her teammates when they helped with a Habitat for Humanity build. She's made several visits with pediatric patients at Shands Hospital at the University of Florida. In August, Harper and many other members of the Gator team worked with pediatric patients on art projects. When the documentary film “Darius Goes West: The Roll of His Life” came to campus in September, Harper joined her Gator teammates welcoming guests to the UF Phillips Center for the Performing Arts Center, handing out programs and gift bags. She's contributed 18 Goodwill Gator hours in 2009.
Next up for Florida is the announcement of the 2009 NCAA Soccer Championship field. The 64-team field will be revealed Monday, Nov. 9 at approximately 8 p.m. (ET) on ESPN News (Gainesville/Ocala Cox Cable channel 252).
