A total of six Florida football players were named to the 2009 Sporting News All-SEC Team, highlighted by junior consensus All-America cornerback Joe Haden (Ft. Washington, Md.), who was named the 2009 Defensive MVP by the publication Thursday.
Florida's tallied three offensive picks, including senior quarterback and William V. Campbell Trophy winner Tim Tebow (Jacksonville, Fla.), junior tight end Aaron Hernandez (Bristol, Conn.), the 2009 John Mackey Award winner, and junior center Maurkice Pouncey (Lakeland, Fla.), who picked up the 2009 Rimington Award for the nation's best center.
Haden, senior linebacker Brandon Spikes (Shelby, N.C.) and junior defensive end Carlos Dunlap (North Charleston, S.C.) headlined Sporting News' UF defensive selections.
The Gators will cap off the 2009 season with an Allstate Sugar Bowl appearance, when the fifth-ranked Orange and Blue take on No. 3 Cincinnati at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans, La., on Jan. 1, 2010.
