Florida Soccer's Lauren Hyde on NSCAA Scholar All-America Team

Senior Lauren Hyde (Carmel, Ind.) makes her second consecutive appearance on the National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas Scholar All-America team in 2009. Hyde moved up to the first team in 2009 after appearing on the third team in 2008. Florida has placed a player on the NSCAA Scholar All-America first team six times since 1998.
Earlier this month, Hyde was named to the NSCAA All-America second team. It was her second appearance on the team, as she earned third-team honors in 2007. In November, Hyde became the first Gator to pick up the SEC Defensive Player of the Year award since the league began naming an offensive and defensive player of the year in 2004. She made her fourth appearance on an All-SEC team as a senior (first team in 2006, 2007 & 2009; second team in 2008) – joining former Gators Danielle Murphy and Abby Wambach as the other Florida players to earn a spot on an All-SEC team each year. Hyde was a second-team selection to the 2009 TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Season. She played the entirety of 17 matches in 2009 and finished her UF career with 78 complete matches played – a record for UF field players.

The Scholar All-America selections are invited to be recognized at the annual All-America Luncheon, to be held in Philadelphia, Pa., on Saturday, Jan. 16, as part of the 2010 NSCAA Convention.
Florida placed a total of three players on 2009 NSCAA/adidas University Scholar All-South Region Teams. Hyde was named to the region's first team. Senior midfielders Jessica Eicken and Angela Napolitano are both honorable mention selections. Eicken started 19 matches as a holding midfielder. She turned in a career-high five points (1 goal, 3 assists) in 2009. Napolitano had 20 starts in 2009 and turned in the game-winning goal versus Auburn. She also posted five points in 2009 off of one goal and three assists.
A student-athlete must be a junior or above with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average, start more than 50 percent of all matches and be a significant contributor to the team to be nominated for NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-America honors.
