McCarney Named Finalist For Coaching Honor
Tuesday, December 8, 2009 | Football
University of Florida Assistant Head Coach, Defense/Defensive Line Dan McCarney was named as one of the three finalists from FootballScoop.com for one of the organization's “Coaches of the Year” awards that will recognize 15 different position coaches in College Football.
“The FootballScoop set of awards is unique from other 'Coach of the Year' awards in that there is no other outlet that focuses on position coaches and coordinators, whereas nearly every other 'Coach of the Year' award is solely for a head coach. Additionally, to be considered for our awards, a coach has to have been nominated by one of his peers,” said Scott Roussel, President of FootballScoop.
From the hundreds of coaches that were nominated by their peers, finalists have been chosen for the 15 awards from the following areas: Offensive Coordinator, Defensive Coordinator, Special Teams Coordinator, Strength & Conditioning Coach, Director of Football Operations, Quarterbacks Coach, Running Backs Coach, Wide Receivers
Coach, Offensive Line Coach, Defensive Line Coach, Linebackers Coach, Secondary Coach, FCS Coordinator, Division II Coordinator and Division III Coordinator of the Year.
The finalists for Defensive Line Coach of the year are:
• Jim Panagos – UCF
• Dan McCarney - FLORIDA
• Dan Brooks and Chris Rumph - Clemson
Dick Bumpas of TCU was the 2008 winner.
Voting will take place through Sunday, Dec. 13. Winners will be announced beginning on Monday, Dec. 14.
A panel of current and former coaches, along with past recipients of the awards, will evaluate the finalists and select the winners. Votes will be considered, however, the panel has final decision over the awards.
