Nine UF Football Players Highlight 2009 All-SEC Coaches' Team
Tuesday, December 8, 2009 | Football
Led by seven first-team All-SEC selections, a total of nine University of Florida football players were named to the 2009 All-SEC team, voted on by the league's head coaches, announced Tuesday afternoon. Eleven of the 12 SEC schools had a member on the first-team All-SEC squad and every league institution had at least two players represented on both the first and second teams.
There were only three unanimous selections to this year's All-SEC squad - Florida senior quarterback Tim Tebow (Jacksonville, Fla.), Alabama running back Mark Ingram and Crimson Tide linebacker Rolando McClain. Tebow's honor marked his third straight year as a first-team selection. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players, thus a unanimous selection earned 11 of 12 first-team votes.
UF's four first-team offensive honorees consisted of Tebow, junior offensive lineman Mike Pouncey (Lakeland, Fla.), junior tight end Aaron Hernandez (Bristol, Conn.) and junior center Maurkice Pouncey (Lakeland, Fla.).
Junior cornerback Joe Haden (Ft. Washington, Md.), junior defensive end Carlos Dunlap (North Charleston, S.C.) and senior linebacker Brandon Spikes (Shelby, N.C.) headlined the first-team defense for the Orange and Blue.
Two other Florida senior defensive players, end Jermaine Cunningham (Stone Mountain, Ga.) and linebacker Ryan Stamper (Jacksonville, Fla.), garnered second-team All-SEC accolades, Stamper earning the first SEC postseason honor of his career.
