Gator Soccer Gives Back to Gainesville Community

On Wednesday, Feb. 25, the Gator soccer team scored a goal for the Gainesville community.
Alongside head coach, Becky Burleigh, the entire team volunteered to cook and serve the residents of the St. Francis House. The St. Francis House is a shelter and rehabilitation center for the homeless.
“We went there and cooked lasagna, brownies, bread and salad. After that we put it all together and some people served while some people cooked. It was fun,” Jessica Eicken said.
Eicken, who was in charge of organizing the event, baked the lasagna.
“It makes us feel really good,” Eicken said, “We were looking for ways to give back to the community. It's really rewarding to know that you're helping someone who will really appreciate it.”
Earlier this year, the team volunteered for Gainesville's Habitat for Humanity. Team members helped lay down the groundwork for building a house and were able to meet the family soon to be moving it.
“Just to know their story and see where they came from was really rewarding,” she said. “We hope they love their new home. We enjoyed helping getting it started.”
