University of Florida senior golfer Billy Horschel (Grant, Fla.) was named to the 2009 The Ben Hogan Award watch list, announced on Monday by Chesapeake Energy, the Colonial Country Club, The Friends of Golf (FOG) and the Golf Coaches Association of America.
The most prestigious award in men's college golf, the Hogan is presented annually to the top men's NCAA Division I, II or III, NAIA or NJCAA college golfer taking into account all collegiate and amateur competitions during a 12-month period.
Horschel is a three-time All-American and earned the 2007 SEC Player of the Year Award. He is a three-time medalist in collegiate tournaments, most recently tying for first at the 2007 NCAA East Regional. Horschel had seven top-10 finishes in collegiate tournaments in 2008.
In addition to Horschel's success at the University of Florida, he was a member of the 2007 and 2008 U.S. Palmer Cup teams, the only American to represent the U.S. in both events. He finished in a tie for 10th during the stroke play portion of the 2008 U.S. Amateur at Pinehurst and advanced to match play for the third straight year.
The Hogan Award semifinalists will be announced April 16. The three finalists named on May 7 will be invited to Colonial Country Club in Fourth Worth, Texas, for the Hogan Award presentation on the evening of May 22.
